History is the frozen reality, while reality is the flowing history. In order to deepen students' understanding and identification of historical culture, remember the dedication and sacrifice of heroic predecessors during the war years, and cultivate students' sense of patriotism and national consciousness, this semester, the history teaching and research group of our Senior High School Department has meticulously planned and organized a series of thematic teaching activities. For instance, the history exploration activity for Senior One students visiting historical buildings in Anqing, the hand-written poster activity for Senior Two students commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the war, and the history knowledge competition activity for Senior Three students have enabled students to embark on a historical exploration through hands-on practice, paying tribute to the martyrs and honoring the heroes!
In the first place, a piece of paper depicted mountains and rivers, with brushstrokes paying tribute to the martyrs. This commemorative hand-written poster activity focused on the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. Our students created based on major historical events such as the September 18th Incident and the Nanjing Massacre, or the deeds of anti-Japanese heroes like Yang Jingyu and Leng Yun.
In the second place, from collecting historical materials, tracing the historical context, to depicting the heroic figures and designing the layout style, every step involved the remembrance and respect for the martyrs, embodying the profound understanding of that tumultuous era. Through the brushstrokes, the glorious moments of the victory in the war were captured. Thus, the original intention of remembering history and cherishing peace was conveyed.
In the third place, Anqing, as a national-level historical and cultural city, every ancient site carries profound historical memories. In order to enable students to experience the warmth of their hometown's history up close, the history teaching and research group of the Senior High School Department organized a 'Anqing Historical Building Scavenger Hunt' activity for the 11th grade students.
In the fourth place, during the vacation, the students transformed into 'historical explorers of their hometowns', actively visiting well-known historical buildings such as Yingjiang Temple, Zhenfeng Pagoda, and Anqing Ancient Street. During the exploration, they supplemented their knowledge by referring to the historical materials they had collected in advance and the online explanations. Meanwhile, students meticulously learned about the historical background, architectural features and cultural connotations of each building, who captured the appearance of the ancient sites with cameras and recorded their visiting experiences with pens.
In the fifth place, from the majestic and upright appearance of Zhenfeng Tower to the ancient city walls' profound and enduring history, from the morning bells and evening drums of Yingjiang Temple to the red memories of the memorial hall, students engaged in independent exploration and had a dialogue with history, who deeply appreciated the unique charm of Anqing as a 'cultural kingdom and the hometown of drama', further enhancing their love for their hometown and cultural confidence through personal experience.
In the sixth place, at the end of the year and the beginning of the new one, an extraordinary historical knowledge feast was splendidly staged in the Senior High School Department of our school! On the evening of December 28th, the joint classroom on the first floor was brightly lit, with the Senior Three history knowledge competition for the New Year celebration in full swing, which added a rich academic atmosphere to the upcoming New Year festival.
Last but the least, in the examination room, the history teachers conducted the exam meticulously and fairly; Meanwhile, the candidates focused intently and calmly answered the questions, sometimes lowering their heads to ponder and organize the knowledge points, and sometimes picking up their pens to write down the answers quickly. Amid the tense competition atmosphere, not only did the students feel the unique charm of the history subject that transcends time and space, but also, through the process of 'promoting learning through competition and enhancing practice through competition', they effectively consolidated their historical review achievements in the final year, improving their ability to apply knowledge and respond on the spot.
On the whole, this semester's series of historical practice activities is a vivid demonstration of the 'integration of knowledge and action' educational philosophy implemented by the history teaching and research group of our Senior High School Department. More remarkably, through various activity forms, historical knowledge is brought from textbooks to real life. In the future, the history teaching and research group of the Senior High School Department will continue to explore more high-quality practice activities, guiding students to draw strength from the reflection of history, strengthen their ideals and beliefs by inheriting culture, and grow into outstanding young people with both historical heritage and a sense of responsibility for the times!
